My art style: Stippling
/ˈstip(ə)liNG/
“Stippling is the creation of a pattern simulating varying degrees of solidity or shading by using small dots.”
Patience and a steady hand are key to this style of art. With this technique, thousands of individual dots come together to create a classic, photo-realistic portrait of your pet.
Why stippling?
Although it may seem tedious, I enjoy the methodic rhythm of stippling and find it very satisfying to watch. Also, creating an entire image from tiny dots is quite a conversation starter as it is scarcely used in the art world today.
Creation Process:
Your pet’s photo needs to be approved before purchase.
Read the image guide and submit your photo here.
It can take up to 20 hours to draw this type of portrait. A photo of your pet is referenced in order to capture as much detail as possible. Your pet’s portrait will be created with love and care to make sure they closely resemble their photo.
First, your pet’s photo is processed through a photo editing software to remove the background, adjust the exposure, shadows and saturation.
Then, a line drawing is created where every whisker, spot and wrinkle are accounted for.
Next, the line drawing is printed and transferred onto thick 140lb. paper, size 11x14”.
And for the final drawing, I use professional, archival-grade Sakura Micron pens. These pens are permanent, pigment-based ink pens that are fade-resistant and chemically stable. They offer an incredibly tiny pen tip to make the smallest of details.
If your pet is wearing a collar / tag, I prefer to remove it from the portrait. I think it looks more natural. However, if they’re wearing a sweater or a decorative collar, you can request that it remain in the portrait. I can even add a pop of color at no extra charge.
Everything included with each portrait:
When you commission a portrait from me, you’re not only supporting a small business, but you’re supporting real art.
No part of my portraits involve the use of A.I.
Mass produced, computer generated prints lack a human and artistic touch. Your portrait will be 100% original, a true one-of-a-kind.
Every portrait is matted and framed in a classic black frame with white matting. The frame can hang on the wall or sit on a tabletop.
You can also choose not to have your portrait framed if you prefer to use your own.
In addition, each portrait comes with a Certificate of Authenticity to guarantee that it’s the true original artwork by me, Kacie Schendel.
But wait, there’s more!
Every portrait is recorded and formatted into a satisfying timelapse video for free! And you can watch me draw it Live!
